Online Marketing

Before you begin your online marketing campaign, create a small document with all of your information in one place so that you can access it easily.  Other than your link, you will need a good description.  The limits to this description will vary from business to business, but it would be good to write a description of about 100-150 characters.  Also, you will want some good keywords.  You can find some good keywords through Google's keyword tool.  Have the link to your website banners readily available as well.  Most websites require either a 468x60 banner or a 125x125 banner, so you will want to have both.  If the website that will use your banner won't be hosting the banner themselves, then your website will be responsible for the bandwidth generated from the image.  A good way to avoid this is to use a free image hosting service like PhotoBucket.

When you are finished, your document will look something like this:

  • Business/Website Name
  • Website Link
  • Short Description
  • Long Description
  • Keywords
  • Banner Links

Keeping the document open while you create your online marketing campaigns will give you easy access to this information.  It is even easier if you just copy and paste your information into the appropriate areas.

When you are first starting out, you will probably be most concerned with the cost of advertising.  There are several places online where you can advertise for free.  As you grow, you will want to do some experimenting with paid advertising.  Keep track of where you advertise and which places bring you the most visitors, sales, leads, etc.  This will help you determine which of your advertising efforts are working to your advantage.
